Rainy Day Outfits

I don't know what the weather is like where you are dear readers, but out here it's miserable. The rain will not let up. I'm assuming that I won't see the sun again until June at this point. However, all is not lost. The rain can be comforting clacking against a cold, tin roof. The sound is like home when you're in front of a fire, hot chocolate in hand. But what to do about those stormy days when you can't drag yourself out of bed, but know you need to? A rainy day outfit is key.

When it rains as much as it does here, you need outerwear that protects you from the elements, but that doesn't mean you can't look cute. I've been jumping around trying to avoid puddles because i was not prepared. Leaking rain boots are nobody's friend, therefore I've compiled a sort of wish list of items that I'd like for my next rainy day outing.

Lessons in Classics Coat
from ModCloth

Raindrops Keep Falling Umbrella
from ModCloth
Terrier Firma Rain Boots
from ModCloth

These items may all seem disparate; the patterns may clash a little, but they will all keep you dry, warm and happy. I love the cheeriness of the built-in scarf on the coat and the fact that the boots aren't totally black. A solid coloured rain boot would be a nice option as well, but please don't go with the yellow. I personally find the dogs on the print adorable.

All of these items are little out of my price range. For now I'll stick with the leaking rain boots and faux leather coat, but if anybody comes into some money...

Coffee and Term Papers

It's term paper time around these parts. Add extra curriculars and other time commitments to that and you're left with one exhausted co-ed. I'm sure I'm not the only feeling the crunch right now.

I know of only one tried and true way to make it through the term paper rush and into exam time. Coffee and lots of it. Some people swear by exercise or getting enough sleep, but not me. Hook me up with a vat of coffee, the stronger the better, and we're golden.

The great thing about this time of year is Starbucks Christmas coffees. On a really rough and rainy day; the kind that chills you to the bone, the best pick me up is a sugar filled latte off in a tiny nook of the coffee shop. For me, the atmosphere at Starbucks isn't as nice as some of the local joints, that emphasize seating and try to create a familial atmosphere, but nothing can beat a gingerbread latte.

How do you make your days special this time of year, when the days are getting darker and you're holed up in a library?

Welcome! Anybody out there?

Hello out there out there in the internet abyss! Crickets? Nobody's reading yet? Okay! I should probably introduce myself; let you know who I am, sort of.

I am a fourth year university student at a relatively prominent Canadian university. That's all you'll get about me, at least for now. However, you will find out more about the purpose of this blog. After living for three, going on four years in a dorm I've decided that dorm living is it's own little microcosm. It's unique.

Unique doesn't necessarily mean good; it simply means that this is an experience unlike most. How many times will I have the chance to live among people who are all around the same age as me, all go to the same school and yet come from such different backgrounds?

Dorm life has its ups and downs; parties, fights, all those lovely stereotypes. I'm hoping to document my experience of the last year...or more... of my degree and maybe highlight some of the highs and lows for all you (eventual?) readers. All the while remaining sane (as for chic, who am I kidding, valiant efforts undermined by olive green closets and the ubiquitous sweatpants abound).
